Dendrocalamus latiflorus, commonly known as Taiwan giant bamboo, is a large tropical clumping bamboo native to Taiwan and southern China. It is renowned for its tall, straight culms that can reach heights of 14 to 25 meters with diameters of 8 - 20 cm. The culms are typically green to yellowish-green and have smooth internodes with minimal branching on the lower portions, making them ideal for harvesting and processing.
 
This species is highly valued both economically and ecologically. The strong and flexible culms are widely used in consumption, water pipes, baskets and paper while the young shoots are considered a delicacy in various Asian cuisines. D. latiflorus is also appreciated for its ornamental beauty and is often planted in parks and botanical gardens. Its fast growth, dense clumping habit, and adaptability to different tropical and subtropical climates make it an excellent choice for reforestation, erosion control, and sustainable agroforestry systems.
